An Inexpensive Way to Preserve Expensive Art Brushes
Terry Mulligan
Looking for an inexpensive way to preserve all those expensive art brushes you've collected over the years? Here's a tip ...
Visit your local dollar store and purchase a "conditioning shampoo" and fingernail scrubber -- it's that simple. I've tried so many different types of expense paint brush cleaners and none of them seem to clean and preserve as well as a conditioning shampoo. I just keep the bottle at my studio sink -- the shampoo quality of the product provides a "deep clean" while the conditioning quality of the product keeps the bristle and hairs soft and rich.
Cleaning Instructions:
1. Dispense a small amount of conditioning shampoo on your fingertips and gently massage the brush with the shampoo and water
2. Use the nail scrubber to thoroughly remove paint from the ferrule and bristles by gently moving the scrubber in a downward direction (from handle to bristle -- never the other way)
3. Rinse well and use your fingers to reshape the bristles to their original form before they dry
