GUIDE: How Do I Create an Original Background?

PART 1: OPEN A NEW THE GIMP FILE:

1. Open The Gimp

2. Go to File>New (Ctrl+N)

3. Type

• Name: “background”

• Width: 100 pixels

• Height: 100 pixels

• Resolution: 72 pixels/inch

• Mode: RGB color

• Select Contents: White

4. Click OK.

5. Save as “background.xcf” into the Documents>originals folder.

PART 2: CREATE THE BACKGROUND

1. For a simple background just add some color and texture, then go to part 3.

2. For a patterned background select a 50 × 50 pixel area with the marquee tool.

3. Move the selected area to the upper left corner of the canvas.

4. Fill the selected area with an interesting color and texture.

5. Copy the layer.

6. Move the copy of the layer to the right of the original.

7. Select Edit>Transform>Flip Horizontal

8. Merge the two layers

9. Copy the new layer

10. Move the copy of the layer to the bottom of the original.

11. Select Edit>Transform>Flip Vertical.

12. Save the file.

PART 3:SAVE FOR THE WEB IN GIF FORMAT

1. Choose File > Save As… Name the file bkgrd1.gif and save into the Documents>beta_images folder.

2. In the Export File dialogue box, select Convert to Indexed using default settings. Click Export.

3. In the Save as GIF dialogue box click OK.
