Color Spacing
Valerie Atkisson / Igor Asselbergs
Thanks to Igor Asselbergs, here is a great graphic design or typography technique. It is a great way to communicate with the public while grabbing their attention to the content. I like the black and white example and how the type is slightly over lapped. Wow! the color one is really tricky. It makes my eyes hurt to look at it. It is a successful example of attraction and repulsion in graphic design. You can’t take your eyes off it and at the same time you can’t look at it. If you want to hold someone’s gaze, use it!

I have used this myself when I was starting out as a designer designing magazine ads and such. If I learned one thing in the last few years is that spacing makes typography work. I wouldnt recommend using this contrast typography technique if you only have a few seconds to send your message, like a billboard.

To the extent that it does work, it resolves a situation which, except for "display", one should probably try to avoid in the first place - hyper-density typography. It does allow "line" differentiation - at a cost of reading and resting comfort.

This reminds me of the vinyl cover Children of the Future by Steve Miller Band, you've got to read in between the blobs..haha

Great example of how contrast in color can be used to enhance type.
