Posted about 1 year ago I used Nikon Capture to process my RAW files, I just liked it. Then CS2 for final edit. Now since I got the D80 Capture doesn't work. I gave the guy at Nikon an earful to no avail about me spending thousands of dollars over the years on Nikon products but he said I still need to buy Capture NX. So guess I'll be using CS2 for processing. I shouldn't have to pay for their software. Sorry for the rant :)

Posted about 1 year ago I have been using photoshop since the 7.0 release, but lately I have been testing aperture and lightroom. I really feel that both of these new programs are the best out there for post processing(PP) digital photos. They stay as true to photography as possible, I think that as far as Photoshop CS3 goes its really a whole different ball game. If you are looking for a great PP program and don't need all the extras for animation, film and video, or other visual tricks I'd go with either Aperture 2.0 or Adobe Photoshop Lightroom they are both much cheaper than Photoshop CS3 and much more akin to the pro photographer.

Posted about 1 year ago Recently I have been using Camera Raw with Adobe's Creative Suite 3. Camera Raw is great for quick batch editing I find, and the controls for the most part are good enough to signifigantly editing single photographs.

| Posted 11 months ago My most recient is CS4 but I like Photoshop elements 7 and keep elements 2 and a very old Adobe photoshop from my very first camera that both have things on them the new programs let go for one reason or other but I still like. I started digital about 14 years ago when I thought a 1 MG camera was huge and unmanagable HAHAHAHAHAHA How times do change and are changing so fast by the time I write this or you read it, it will be out of date. | Posted 9 months ago I use Adobe Lightroom. Its a little more restricted than photoshop but its narrowed down to use specifically with photos. The set up of the program is very nice and stylish and extremely easy to use. I recommend it to everyone who can't afford photoshop or would like to work with a different program along with photoshop. |

| Posted 7 months ago I use Capture NX and Gimp and can't complain. I don't do much editing at all though. I use Gimp maybe 20 minutes out of a month. I've heard that Nikon has programed information into Capture NX and NX2 that they did not release to any other programers so you get better RAW converstion from it. Study Nature, Love Nature, Stay close to Nature it will never fail you.

Posted 5 months ago I am brand new to digital, and am just looking for the most basic in software. I despise computers, and have no desire to play with / manipulate my images. Would Capture NX2 suffice, or is there something even more basic (cheaper) out there? Thanks PS Does this make me a heathen?

Posted 5 months ago "Capture NX-the-latest" is a perfect fit for your Nikon gear. But you may want to give "GIMP" a look, also. It could well be all you need. And, no, it doesn't make you a heathen -- rather an intelligent consumer of graphic arts tools.

Posted 4 months ago I shoot raw and process them in Photoshop CS3 interface. It's the best tool I have found for this. Even bad exposures can be helped out. My favorite thing is the neutral balance sampler. You can remove a cast overall without loosing detail or changing the image too much. And the life I've been given and the time that passes each day, seems the more I try to hang on the more it slips away.

Posted 2 months ago I'm a bit cheap...and job hunting so using GIMP is my only option... wish I hadn't sold my Macbook now... That was a 2.16GHz Dual Core and would have run something nice. Oh well.

Posted 16 days ago I'm for open source. The nice thing about open source is if you want a new feature or to fix a bug & you know how to the only thing stopping you is yourself. I've been a GIMP user since 0.98.0 - a very long time. Version 3.0.0 is due out next year. If you want a preview 2.7.0 does contain a lot of features that make up the next major release canidate. I've found the RAW converter UFRAW to be very satisfactory both as a stand a lone and as a plug in. It's come a long way in the last year. It handles PEFs, DNGs, & NEFs rather skillfully. The newer versions do rival many features of the process you can spend cash on. I will say because the GIMP does not contain photo indexing capabilities I do limit myself in work flow.
