For the past four years in art school and concentrating in graphic design, we were taught by different professors about using the Almighty Grid.

Granted, most of the professors I had were stuck on Swiss design and being precise with measuring and creating the grid. I never got many of the questions answered on how to really use a grid. I have struggled with it in the last two years of college since that's when you concentrate on your area of expertise. I am now an intern again at a new agency, but am finding it increasingly more difficult to quickly come up with a grid which works for the ideas I have. Do any of you designers out there struggle with creating a solid grid and knowing which type to use for what purpose, not to mention the math involved? Are there any good books out there you would recommend to really get a handle on grids? I have only a few, but they are very simple and don't explain measuring columns, rows, etc.

How do you look in jello? Or are you more the wet t-shirt sort? lol
