What Happened to ArtBistro?

Posted about 1 month ago Ok, let me start by stating that I have a real account with ArtBistro(I have for a little over a year) but I decided to make this fake one so I could bring up this topic without the risk of getting deleted, because I know AB has made a reputation of quickly deleting anyone who speaks against it. So heres my question... This site used to be a greaty site to post your stuff and get critiques from serious and experiances artists, but now... I don't even know. What happened to this site? Just take some time to voice what you used to love about this site. Suggest ways to make it better. Why did you join this site and is it still living your expectations? I know when I joined I loved AB, but now I can't stand the problems its been having.

| Posted about 1 month ago Let me begin by saying is a free site, I have met some great and creative people and some not so great. What is there to complaint about? You say you are very unhappy with this site, yet you hold on. As with any relationship if you are not getting your needs met, move on. Life is too short to hide behind vails, if you have something to say, have the courage to voice your opinion without hiding. Live every day as if it was your last day on earth. Have a great day, Patsy |

| Posted about 1 month ago voicing your opinion without hiding gets you banned. Where have you been? The Anti-Christ will rise when the seed of a Virgin is loosed upon the earth during the Third Harvest Moon of the Third month of the third year upon its reaching of puberty. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I've been here, but I have not have that experience. I don't find it necessary to hide in order to voice my opinion. If I need to say something I say it and I am willing to accept the consequences. I also see it this way: AB is offering a free service; maybe they don't want or accept some one bitting their hand, would you? Live every day as if it was your last day on earth. Have a great day, Patsy |

| Posted about 1 month ago There are many FREE sites out there that don't take to the haphazard ruling that this site is accustomed too. There are several sites that you are FREE to voice your opinions without retribution from management. There are FREE sites that allow you to voice bugs and problems in their system and this one refuses to listen. As artists we all strive to make ourselves and our work better so why is it that an art site such as this doesn't accept or hear any of us out when THEY (site admins.) have asked us in the public forum for our opinions and then we get shunned? The Anti-Christ will rise when the seed of a Virgin is loosed upon the earth during the Third Harvest Moon of the Third month of the third year upon its reaching of puberty. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I'm sorry that you have the impression that we members are blacklisted for voicing their opinion. Members are blacklisted for breaking the terms of use. Please read the new and updated terms of use. Just so you know, it is now against the terms of use to create a fictitious account. So please read these terms carefully. The terms state:
If a member breaks any of these terms of use against anyone member or group on ArtBistro, punitive action is taken.
We are always looking for suggestions on how to improve ArtBistro. You may submit your suggestions in the feedback section on the forum.

Well said and to the point. You can sign in with your screen name. I wasn't aware of the ads such as Burger King etc...I guess my using Firefox blocks them The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

| Posted about 1 month ago Klockars thanks for your inut on the ArtBistro/Monster website mergers. I have some insight to your concerns:
Your email address is not required. You should be able to log in with your username. If you cannot please email me at info@artbistro to troubleshoot.
This is a known bug and it will be fixed shortly
I'm not sure what the complaint is here. You don't want to put in your password when you log in, yet you don't want to be "remembered" by our site? "Remembering" is a function of all websites and the browser that you use. These functions have not changed since the Monster migration.
You can refuse to merge accounts and shortly the reminder will be removed.
See above response
The Monster integration is to help you and your job search capabilities. It links your resume on monster, which employers can see with your portfolio of your work, This is benificial to your job search. I will see if it may be an option in the future for access to your ArtBistro account to be walled off from your Monster account. You may prevent this from happening to refuse to have your accounts merged in the first place.
Our advertising venues have not changed since the Monster site merger. As I look at the advertising just now it was for education, Adobe software, and a hybrid car. Last I checked artists go to school, use Adobe software, and drive cars. It is possible that more niche advertising will be implemented in the future this is our goal as well as yours.
McDonald and Burger King do not advertise on this site. Helping artists and designers reach their professonal goals is our mission, so adversising from schools will not go away. |

I noticed by your profile that you have been here since July of this year. The 'bistro of old' was very different from this new bistro. The site has lost many talented people since the beginning of the year. They were entertaining, engaging, and they had some MAGNIFICENT art here. That is what the poster of the thread is talking about. The worst part about that is not for the members who are no longer here, but for the members who remember when they were.. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I've enjoyed being a member of the AB community, and have no problem with the Monster "intrusions"...I just need to update a pertinent resume;-)....My one concern is this: I'm usually busy working on projects and don't understand how busy artists could find the time to amass thousands and thousands of points...I'd like to try out new products and get free stuff, but such is the price one pays for being busy I suppose.... |

| Posted about 1 month ago It is common for communtiy websites to have ebbs and flows to traffic. Influences such as seasonality, popular content, changes to the site and discussion threads all have an influence. ArtBistro is primarily what the users make of it which is the beauty of this community. It will continually change. It is a "living" orgainism. There are thousands of great artists and designers on ArtBistro. Post interesting art topics for discussion and invite your friends to make ArtBistro the community that you want to be apart of. The best is yet to come for ArtBistro! We are very excited new features and engagement down the pipeline. Stay tuned! |

| Posted about 1 month ago For the record you CANNOT REFUSE to combine Monster and AB email addresses. At this present time it only gives us the option "I'll Do This Later." Let me try to understand what you you just said the 'bistro of old' was great and magnificent but the new members have a lot less to be desired? We are lacking of the social graces plus we lack the skills to create magnificent art. I can live with that, it leaves a lot of room for improvement and this is one of the main reasons I joined AB. Did you ever stop to consider that maybe these members that moved on were ready for something else and AB no longer suited their needs. I like the idea that AB is constantly evolving that there is new blood as well as "old". This how we grow as artists and as human beings.

Heavy, heavy sigh...
(That is no offense to new folks, it's just a very different dynamic that just doesn't exist anymore. AB is a corporate driven, PG friendly website with all the spice, energy and personality removed, sanitized for my protection. Yawn. However, since it is not nearly as much fun, I don't waste as much time here as I used to.)

THANKS Valerie, That works!
I assumed these two to be connected but they are just serial, I guess. Using a networked computer, I only want to be remembered until closing the connection. Now, it seems every few minutes, I'm asked to sign in and be remembered.
Can't! No place to do so.
Thanks for trying - on that. Resumes, work history, cover letters are targeted to address the job. I, like some others here, have worn many hats. I don't believe it is necessary or useful to show them all off to each and every viewer. I prefer to select the performance to fit the audience.
Sounds good to me.
I didn't say they did - only that I don't want to see them here (with insurance companies, banks, and the rest who have plenty of other venues to plunder.) [The last time I checked, artists did everything that anyone else does; and so, aren't they bombarded enough everywhere else. ] This should be, I think, a more special place dedicated to art & design, as its name suggests. - KD |

That's an interesting idea; but sadly, Nothing is FREE. The energy investment of the membership, up to now, has made the site desirable. That made it possible to sell advertising here. That wasn't free; they paid their dues. -KD

| Posted about 1 month ago That anything "happened" or significantly changed on AB, is largely a misconception bordering on urban legend. (And I don't speak of TOUs and blacklists here. That's for those other threads.) While it's true that much of the raucous, good fun once so prevalent in the general forums has stalled -- and whose fault is that ?-- the real action has always been on the inter-personal level anyway, and not on the forums. Indeed, it continues to thrive amongst the myriad, "underground", networks of artists, kooks and characters that continue to populate this site, whether for the greater good or someone's narrowly defined agenda. While it's true that, a relative few (less then ten), charismatic (I'm being generous) members have left AB -- and I'm not taking issue with their reasons -- it's also true that those who remained, to complain about those who left, did little or nothing to keep-up their end of whatever it is they miss so much, and indeed still make little effort. The short-lived phenomenon of former members colonizing new web sites in the extraordinarily vane belief that they would dominate the discourse in those new venues is shocking for its narcissism and laughable for its failure. But that is only eclipsed by the notion that but for them there was no AB. I'll take it one further: What happened to AB? You "happened" to AB! Now what? Your move. Anyone desiring to post a new photo, painting or sketch of a squirrel, boxing kangaroo, zombie, or penguin is at liberty to do so. If you feel a burning desire to share a haiku with the world, who is stopping you? Have you coined a new word or given new meaning to an old one? Share it! But don't leave the rest of us with your sentiment that you pine for good old times -- especially if you did nary a thing to contribute to them. This place makes few, if any, demands that anyone participate in anything. Just don't tell me what it isn't anymore, if you're not doing something about it. And by "about it" you might endeavour to reviving a favoured thread or forum YOU left alone to go dormant, all because your "friend" decided to leave the party early. And some fun you where after that, too. |

| Posted about 1 month ago A suggestion . I have no problem with employers looking at my monster profile , but I would rather not everybody else see it . If I understand this correctly , as of now its either all or nothing . Perhaps a setting that allows employers only to view the information but not the general community . I think thats what most of us here would like . I let all the new folks know in a private message that I can see their info and how to turn it off if they dont want everybody to be able to view it . Most of the new joins are not aware that their info can be seen untill turned off in privacy settings ;) |

| Posted about 1 month ago Hi! I am new here but I notice the difference from AB when I joined and the AB now. I can't handle the stress of being answering to messages and each message I try to send I have to sign in again! It is like that all day long! I think most of us take the free times to come here for a bit. Now it seams impossible to do that because you have to sign in each minute or so. Very stressful! Is there anything we can do? Why is this happening? The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude. (Friedrich Nietzsche). |

| Posted about 1 month ago I visit here from time to time, a specter of the past, and I will not state my opinion plainly, for fear of raising the wrath of unwanted attention, nor will I question the management and their abilities to manage this site.. but yes it has changed and others have gone other sites because of grievances stated (that were reasonable grievances and were quietly dismissed because of it.) There is a reason for my signature. But yes Art bistro has changed and I fear not for the better. Yes it is free, but the time that artists invest here is not, and if it were not for the artists and their art, this site could not be. But enough said. I have met really good artists here, who unfortunately have departed or were dismissed on conventions of interpretation of TOU. Again something that is not to be challenged only accepted. But you folk have a good day...

| Posted about 1 month ago I think people have voiced some legitimate concerns here, but ultimately ArtBistro is whatever the users make it out to be. I've been here since the begginning and seen artbistro grow from something very small into what it is today. Improvements take time, and I have definitely seen improvements- small things that most people don't even notice. The most amazing thing- There is actually a person responding in the forums to our concerns!!!!! Wow! I mean, sometimes that happens on other sites, but more often than not companies are pretty hands off. Oh, and that's another good point. ArtBistro is a company. Just like Museums and Galleries are companies. People own and control these companies, and are ultimately the deciders in change. Now artists can voice their opinions in these changes, and they should, but imagine if an artist was with a gallery and really started freaking out (not to say anyone here is freaking out in this particular forum, although I have seen it many times), demanding the gallery change everything to their wishes. They'd be dropped like a fly! I've worked with several galleries in chelsea and have seen this very thing happen. I think it is a very good thing that Monster has merged with ArtBistro (even though it seems Monster has owned ArtBistro for some time). In ArtWorld terms, it's kinda llike the MoMa and Ps1 working together. Ps1 has always been a really great thing, but partnership with the MoMa has furthered the mission of both institutions. We may not see the change yet, but I think there are really big things in store for ArtBistro, now that it has officially merged with Monster. And to get back to my original point... ArtBistro will only be as good as the Artists make it. So if anyone is upset with the quality of the Artists, or the forums or whatever it may be- Then post good stuff- artwork, forums, videos, etc... And then it will become what you want it to be. I really love this place, and have no intentions of leaving any time soon.
