Freelance work; what are we worth?

Posted 4 months ago If I may posit a question. I am leaving the world of hourly paid grind, and embarking on a few freelance jobs I've lined up, but I am extremely murky on how much I should charge. Moreover, I am unsure if I should charge an hourly rate or a rate per project. I've seen a few places that seem to expect one or the other. I've done freelance work for friends, and you know how that goes, if you aren't doing it for free, you're probably doing it for a heavy discount for one of your buds. So I would really appreciate any tips or suggestions on how to go about negotiating a freelance "going rate." Thanks! |

| Posted about 1 month ago First of all, what kind of work are you doing? You need to take into consideration the cost of your supplies. Also, the amount of time you spend working. Also, if you ever put your work in a gallery don't forget the commission. Also, do a little research in your area and look up what other freelancers are charging. It wouldn't hurt to talk to other artists who are in your area. And remember that you're just starting out. Once people get to know your work and you earn a "reputation" you're allowed to up your price. |
