Help me design an art lab?

Posted 4 months ago I am an interior designer for our local school system. I have to design a new art lab for a medium-sized middle school complete with kiln room. They have given me an old home ec room to work with... plenty of counters and sinks but the cabinetry is awful! Right now I don't have a budget, so I was going to design one "dream lab" and another more modest one, reusing sinks, etc. I was just curious if anyone who has been an art teacher may have any great ideas for me that come from years of teaching--perhaps a suggestion I wouldn't think of just being a recent art grad? Many thanks to anyone who helps! |

| Posted 2 months ago Hello! I was an art specialist for a private school in washington not too long ago, and I found a whole load of inspiration from the students on my first day getting to know them artistically. I don't suppose you have an opportunity to have a "class" with them before your project is due?? You might find a lot of hands on creativity that they will be ecstatic to assist you with! Of course to start with I didn't have much to work with in my own room. Quite frankly, I had a room full of carpet for one thing....baaad. very baaad. My kids were K-8, and only the kindergartners were clean enough not to get the carpet dirty beyond repair. Ha. I had some old bookshelves I had reclaimed from the school storage; three of them - painted them primary colors, and used them to store the students art works. Also, it would have been nice to have a better way of hanging things in the room other than poking around the asbestos based ceiling tiles - waaay up high! :-) hope this helps. I would love to hear what you come up with. Sounds like a fun project! Ciao. Mark |
