What do you think of her work?

Do you think her work or her life is more interesting?

Kahlo's work and life were inseparable.   She had a fantastic story to tell and did so in an extraordinary way.   An alchemist -- she was a work of art.

I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy as long as I can paint.

She was a survivor of many tragedies. One great artist as we can see on her work!

Frida painted her agony and did not go much beyond that she painted her inability to carry a child to birth, she painted the result of her accident, the unfaithfulness of DIego, her sexual duality. Frida was very proud of her indigenous heritage but I have never seen that pride in her paintings other then the indigenous dresses she wore. Her art was great but I am not sure I can enjoy it, it was just to dark and I have my own pain and my own darkness as every human has. She didn't seem to go beyond that.

I agree but we should allow ourselves to move forward. I personally prefer Diego Rivera's work, he spoke about a struggle, about a culture, it wasn't all about his suffering it was about his community.

I really enjoy Frida's work because it reminds me that other people suffer, too, and not just with physical pain but also with social/emotional issues. Her life story is fascinating and highly inspirational. I think the way she expressed her feelings was brilliant and admirably fearless, especially in a time when women were largely expected to simply grin and bear whatever came their way. At the same time, I agree with PatsyC that I would have liked her to expand beyond this central factor of her life to relate more to the outside world or to other people. She was so involved in the politics of her time, even having an affair with Leon Trotsky, it would have been wonderful to see more of her opinions about these things in her work. Then again, perhaps we should be impressed with her boldness in asserting that her private, personal experience as an individual was important enough to deserve worldwide attention. Wouldn't it be nice if we all recognized the beauty within as something unique and special?

I positively love Frida Kahlo. She is probably my all time favorite artist. Her passion and drive was so amazing. That's how she worked on her paintings and loved life. I know how she feels in a way and what she went through was so amazing. She inspires me everyday in whatever I do... She was such a beautifully imperfect human being. Which made her art fantastic. .....

I think how you view Frida's work depends on how you relate to the world and art in general. Some see the world in a very political way, which boils down to group behavior and movements of segments of the population. Others see human endeavor as an individual struggle. Each of holds the wold inside ourselves as a microcosm. Frida falls into the latter category. Often, a person who views the world one way cannot fully relate to a person who sees things the other way. They are two different languages.
