Does anyone elce find those 'thanks for adding me' flashy wall comments anoying?? I just find them insincere and most of them are ugly!!  I could understand them more on myspace but we are suposed to be artists, i thought we had more style and creativity than that?

Is it just me?

Its been brought up before, but points for comments are for comments on art, videos, and news (according to guidelines you can see on your my rep page). In the past it has not been as much of a problem. But when glitter started appearing on the comment walls in December, more people than before started loading up on points by making multiple copy and paste remarks on the comment wall. That might not be their intent, but that is how it comes off. That had happened before (sometime two 2 word comments in a row). Kind of degrades what comments are for.

The comment wall does serve a networking purpose, and I use it, (as well as pm's that don't count for points) but I don't think its in the same league as comments on art.  You can delete from the comment wall.

Some people like the glitter and feel strongly about it. Sending and receiving. Perhaps not having comments on the comment wall count for points would remove part of the glitter stigma. This was suggested in the past in the feedback section.

I agree. I can see how it would be annoying... and getting points for commenting on someone's page, would sort of be like getting points for PM's. Really that doesn't make much sense to me.

No need to be annoyed. If you don't like them, just delete them...

Okay....

I am guilty of using some glitter graphics and putting it up on my new friends' walls.       However....There are two that I use that are of my art work with very little glitter~~an oil pastel...and a stippling drawing of me and my son that says "peace". I may stick more to that avenue and I do try to add comments in as well.

I like Bill's (Oregonartguy) idea: Finding an old master's painting and posting it on comment walls. No glitz or glitter he says. A like his art history idea.

I guess that depends on everry single person, I honestly dont have the time to make one and post it on a comment wall, but if I had the time I would probably do it. I feel good if someone does somehing and takes the time, but for I prefer to comment or rate their work, I think that is yhe best way to show someone you're interested in their work, dont you think that?

I came to this forum looking for this exact topic. I agree that it is so MySpace. I believe that you can block those on MySpace but guess not here. I don't mind a small simple photo, but the hugh flashy images are an eyesore. One of the things that makes MySpace so ugly. I didn't come here to offend anyone, but discovering that they get points for it rather offends me. I didn't know you could delete them.

I understand why some people are obsessed with getting points, yet still don't really understand the mindset. Just seems desperate to me, but whatever floats your boat.

I can take them or leave them---some of them are actually quite interesting ( I admit that I found Zingaraluna's ostrich really cute). They are a little to high tech for me and they do tend to slow the page down just as all those music thingies.   I didn't know that you could earn points for them.  I also, was of the understanding that points were earned for comments made on the art itself.     I also don't get the thumbs up or thumbs down comment.  Anyone can do that, but I think the artist would appreciate the reasons behind those comments.

ha ha. well, i really appreciate the thought, but i think that the fact of just typing (no glitter inc.) 'thanks for being my friend' would be just as nice. but i wont say "hey jerk, i dont want your lame crap on my page"...ha ha. its the thought that counts, right?

It's hard to get sore about it. It really is the thought I agree. I do especially like the ones created by my fellow members and friends, those really are worth points because they are orignal works, y'know. These are few and far between though.

AHHHH Glitter ("The Herpes of the craft world" HAHAHAHAHAHA Now that IS funny !)

Well I don't put up flash stuff but probably because I am lazy and don't care how long it takes to get that fourth or fifth star (Looks to see if verbs are worth more than adjectives ) but understand that some goal oriented people see it as a cool way to boost their standing in the community and if you are making a living at selling such things it's like a bat guano factory, you want to spread it around as much as possable so it gets noticed, unfortunately if there is too much it stinks a bit.

I find that if I limit the glitter to 4 per comment page and delete the oldest ones first it keeps things fresher and I don't have to clean my sun glass lenses as often. It also seems to stimulate the process though sometimes and I get so bombed with them that it even scares the bats !

Still I like to see it on here ! Especially on YOUR page more than mine.

Love,

Hap
