This is the greatest alternative to Photoshop I have ever seen. It has all the functionality as PS. The user interface is a little different, but not by much. I have been using this program for over 5 years now and I think it is stellar. You can download your own free copy at sourceforge.net. I would love to hear from other open source software users.

I am a long time user of photoshop, I was working on a project were I had to fix low quality jpeg images. A new version of the Gimp had been released and I decided to give it a try. I now use it for all my image editing, all the adjustment and layer options are nore assesable and render faster in GIMP than photoshop. While photoshop is still much more accessable and intuitive, there is no better free alternative.

I love GIMP I have used it for about a year now and although I have photoshop I chhose my GIMP program for most of my image editing and all of my original design work. Good ol' GIMP is easy to use and fun to boot! I give it 4.5 stars because every once in a while she freezes up and I lose my work....

It's the program I use to design my race cars. I've had the program for about a year but I recently began using it to its full potential. I can't say it's better than Adobe Photoshop but it's free and I know it has the same capabilities as Photoshop - and that makes it invaluable!

If you don't have the budget for commercail software GIMP is an excellent opensource alternative. It has all the functionality that you will find in the high end commercial software. I use it extensively for composition using layers. I also use its gridding features to scale my drawings up to larger sizes. It takes a bit of patients to get your head around, but then again all software does.
Highly recommended.

This program can do most of what the better (and expensive apps can do). I haven't had it choke or freeze like other programs. I've used it for technical manual illustrations to good results.

I stopped using PhotoShop at PhotoShop 6. I loved Photoshop, I just started hating Windows. Unfortunately PhotoShop has never being available for Linux.
GIMP, at first wasn't that good. But the new GIMP does the job pretty well. It has many tools, and the enhancing filters are excellent.
Also the filters for image format are very flexible. It allows me to use even PDF and raw images. It converts pdfs into jpg. It also has many plugging.
In a few words, it's really cool!

This is one of the best free graphic software downloads that's out there. It's a great alternative to Adobe Photoshop.

I'm a diehard GIMPer. I actually prefer GIMP over Photoshop because of it's clean and user-friendly GUI. I've tried Photoshop in the past and it's tools and effects are simply too complicated for my tastes. And the fact that The GIMP is completely free doesn't hurt either. It's a good clean program that's not only easy to use, but easy to learn as well. Tutorials are easy to find, and the GIMP community is full of friendly people who are more than willing to offer aid to new users. I would recommend GIMP to anyone looking to break into the digital art field, photomanipulators and even experienced artists as an alternative to Photoshop.
