There is nothing quite like the hunt and discovery of great pieces of weathered wood panel. they provide great starting points when it comes to surface characteristics and can be used for anything from painting to sculpture/ reliefs and even using them as a palette. And heck, it's even keeping something out of the landfill. My favorite tend to be cannibalized old hardwood teachers desks (drawer bottoms are great) and old cabinets, cupboards. the more scarred and weathered the better.

I love found surfaces...I too always have my eye open for anything stable that I can work on. It is a form of recycling in my opinion. I don't know how many different types of wood panels I have found over the years... a lot. People have been building a lot down here since Katrina so there is an abundance of found surfaces. Sometimes there is chipboard and masonite inside cardboard boxes. Sometimes I'm tempted to paint on the cardboard but just use those as spacers for paintings. I could go on and on.... :)
