With a much smoother and faster processor, one can tell immediately the improvements the 40D has compared to Canon's other D series. Although the money for a beginner camera may be steep, if you can afford this camera......GET IT! The picture quality is outstanding, and the speed at which this camera performs is awesome! Check it out for yourself.

Fantastic improvement over the 30D... more in depth menu, safety features (from accidentally erasing images), and just a better build. I'm convinced you can point this camera at the sky without looking and get an amazing picture. Worth the price of admission.

A workhorse of a camera. Easy to use and tough. Every time you turn around something new comes along, like the 50D, but I'll stick with my trusty 40!

I'm not a primary photographer, but wouldn't mind it, but the technical nature of photography has never appealed to me. But the Canon EOS 40D has enabled me to get out there in the field and take photo's that I can use to make art. It wasn't cheap, but quality tools deliver quality results. I'm loving my new 40D.
