This product has allowed me to become a graphic artist. As popular as the Adobe products are Freehand MX gives you more flexibility and options as graphic design software should. From the "paste in" feature to the user friendly pen tool, I believe every designer should at least give it a try.

I've been usig Freehand since version 2. I know it in and out. I actually like Version 10 better than MX, but both are great tools. I have always liked Freehand better than Illustrator because of the 'paste in' and text management tools (among other things). It just seems to make more sense than Illustrator's sometimes backwards approach. Too bad Adobe bought Macromedia and killed our beloved Freehand. Arrgh!

What do I want for Christmas? "Paste-Inside" in ALL programs. Clipping Masks are clumbsy in comparison. Why cant Adobe take all the things that kick-ass in freehand and "Paste-Inside" to Illustrator? You bought it bitches, use it! I have to agree with Chall, version 10 is better for me personally. But oh the memories of learning on version 5 with a Macintosh Performa. Nothing better than a 13" screen, whooooweeeeeee.

Not real good with this program yet, but it's one of the easier page layout programs.

In my job, it is necessary to design interfaces for interactive CD-based projects. For the most part, these are not long, involved interfaces; just front-ends for the organization of business data files (PDFs, M*cr*s*ft Office files, etc.)

Generally, I use Director for the programming but use Flash to create the interface...which brings me to Freehand. There wasn't anything better I've found yet for doing the baseline design for Flash interfaces and remaining true to the design when imported into Flash. While I have designed some print work in Freehand, this, in my workflow, was Freehand's greatest hidden strength.

I do not know much about this product except that it is the last version of freehand that will ever be created.

FreeHand MXa is the most kick-ass product out there for creating vector artwork. I've tried almost every iteration of AI since v.5, and it is the single most frustrating package to come down the pike EVER. It will break every task into its 13 component sub-tasks - where's the love wit dat? Nope, FreeHand MXa is a product that will solve every vector art need - AND you can export your files to Photoshop, Illustrator, etc, so what's the problem there? The biggest problem for me was having Adobe buy up their competition and then fail to incorporate the kick-ass features (say 'paste inside') into the failed star they call 'Illustrator' ... I had originally entertained hopes that they WOULD incorporate the two packages and make one really hellacious app, but it seems all they were interested in doing was getting rid of the competition. Sadly, we won't see any development of FreeHand beyond MXa. What a shame ...

My absolute favorite soft... Freehand. Been using it since version 4. Started with Freehand instead of Illustrator because back then, Illustrator couldn't import tiffs, use PMS colors and a multitude of other features the Freehand could also do and do so well. Being able to work with multiple page sizes in one file, find a replace with ease, too many pluses to mention. Too bad Adobe bought them and will no longer update this program. I will use it as long as I can. It does still work under Leopard so I have a few more years with it...

More user friendly than Illustrator. Very easy to use! I use it with Photoshop.
