Description:

A mechanical pencil, lead pencil or clicky pencil is a pencil containing an internal mechanism which pushes ("propels") the thin graphite lead through the tip. Like standard pencils, there are also mechanical pencils which have a rubber eraser on the end. Mechanical pencils provide lines of consistent thickness, well suited for technical applications such as drafting and writing

Mechanical pencils are a must for me when I'm drawing. ou can't get that sharp of a point on regular lead. These pencils stay sharp and clean and the eraser doesn't smudge.

Mechanical pencils are reliable and consistent, and the Pentel brand is one I always search for in art supplies, be it lead refills to markers.

I used to love these pencils exclusively. I also like the sumo-grip by Sakura, which is easier for long drawing sessions and has a bigger eraser. the Pentel Mech. Pencil is still a favorite when I'm working on intricate drawings because it is light weight and the tiny erasure is so cute and small enough to erase the tiniest mistake.

I stuck with traditional pencils for far too long... I'll never go back, these are so much more convenient.

I enjoy using this kind of pencil when doing plain drawings. Wooden pencils are better used for shading.

These pencils are Great for any kind of drawing and sketching.
I love my 0.7mm pentel and I use it primarily for Block Outlines in most of my works.
The graphite is very easy to erase when your removing mistakes or inconsistencies and does not leave visible trace lines when removed.

Mechanical pencils are simple, but very effective for any basic drawing, they can darken perfectly or be used lightly enough for structure lines without leaving any marks behind when erased.

I love these things. I hate having to sharpen a pencil every 10 seconds. I can get a variety of shades from this one pencil. I always have about 10-20 of these on me whenever I go to class or out to write poetry. Definitely great for writing since it keeps a good point.

I use mechanical pencils, but prefer standard art pencils. I also would rather use art and kneaded erases then the one on the end of the mechanical pencil.

these are very useful pencils when drafting ... i also find them useful for drawing with "a light touch" ... they seem to have a different quality to them than the conventional drawing pencil and can be used better when quickly drawing outlines on a canvas ... less graphite

My favorite sketching tools are these pens. Whether I'm using the .5, .7 or 10 mm leads, they never fail to deliver the sharp lines Im looking for. Great for adding details in charcoal and ebony as well as the small vellum erasers that help with highlights in your compositions.

This is the only way to go for graphite work you keep a nice sharp point at all times. I start with harder leads and work up to very soft as the piece progresses.

mechanical pencils are ideal. first off you dont have to search the whole house for a sharpener. second theyre clean. third the erasers are fantastic and dont smudge.

I simply love mechanical pencils and would not even consider doing any kind of drawing without them. Regardless of what medium I finish my artwork in, all of it begins as drawings and fully-realized renderings done first with a mechanical pencil. Whether it's for doodling, sketching, or rendering, a mechanical pencil is the best tool for the job.

Oh Ya ! I use the .05 mm version of this and like another post above , wouldn't use anything else . Together with a sandpaper pad and the retractable eraser stick . Fantastic .

I use an older side-click lead advance version seemingly intended for writing, but it works quite well and reliably for my art purposes. Pentel seems to have better quality than the other brands (and please don't confuse it with Pentech), so I look for them first when it comes to mehcanical pencils.

Only gripe? Some with the standard lead advance that have the rubbery grip, the grip has a tendency to slide around with heavy use. Of course the side click ones and gripless ones don't have this problem, so look for those first.
