it is a really good camera that can do the work of a more expensive camera for less

I've fallen in love with this camera.
It's kind of expensive, when you buy all of the extra lenses and stuff, but it's worth every penny.
Super easy to use, and the quality is excellent.
    :]

I gave this camera five stars because 1) I own it 2) my pictures are a product of what it can do and 3) everyone thinks i'm using a d3

Although it took quality images, I found this camera to be difficult to learn and non-intuitive (with controls in four different places), but here's the worst part... if the auto focus fails, as mine did, the camera is virtually worthless, requiring a factory repair that would cost more than the price of many comparable cameras.

It takes the most beautiful quality pictures ive seen. It has a great range of lens capability too. This one is going on 26000 photos and going strong.

Entry level my a$$! This camera is a workhorse, and I find the LED menu a lot easier to navigate and understand than today's D80. I've been using the D300 more and more these days, but I would never lose any sleep taking the D50 as my only option to a shoot. If I had to make one complaint, it would ONLY be the low resolution. And the camera is only guilty of that due to the technology limitations at the time of its release. I have used many Nikons in my lifetime, and I assure you... Anyone who has ever used a Nikon D50 would treat you with the utmost respect, if they saw you with one hanging around your neck these days; I would.

A Pentax K1000 is a good "entry level" camera, and I still have mine. Never use it, but I still have it. =)

My family and I have been using a D50 with SigmaDG 28-200 lens for 2 years. Reliability, perfect. Both the auto and manual focusing systems work perfectly. Flowers, landscape, people, painting, closer sports action (100ft~~~activity limit as set up), Paintings (a must for me), night work ( a must for my son). I checked our numbers over 28,000 exposures without any problems.

Idiot-proof when you just need the shot fast. Dependable. Superb light meter!

The D50 is a good, albeit older intro DSLR. Overshadowed now by the tremendous advances in sensors, low light capabilities, and included video capture in most of the newer DSLRs, the D50 is still a good workhorse camera. It is solidly build and easy to use. All the functions and dials are well laid out.

All in all, the D50 is a good intro camera for a relatively inexpensive price considering it has dropped with the release of it's "replacements."
