I have the d200 -- its my standby camera. I mainly bought it to use my 18-200mm lens....probably one of the most versatile lenses sold today

The best thing about the D200 is that it's a total "shooter's" camera. EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING is accessible form buttons on the body. No digging through the menu for settings or features, everything is at your fingertips.

I had a Canon 20D for a while. It was fine. But I knew I wanted the D200 and I bought one to replace my N90s. Using my D200 is really an extension of my thinking. More than one picture has been taken in less than a few seconds from shoulder bag to subject. I don't use the high speed shooting and I don't really care for the auto focus assist light (most Nikons suffer from the blinding white light) but this camera does everything I want and more. Also, as noted before, the menu jungle is a place I never go. When using my strobes or a flash I can set WB right from two buttons on the camera. Very help to me since I'm usually shooting in the dark. I know the D300 is coming out soon. I'm sure it will be good. If it were me, I would start looking into people selling their gently used D200s and pick one up.

This is my back-up to my d2 but I find myself using it more for my landscape work.

This is my first digital camera and I love it. the layout buttons and format of the menu are easy to use.

I love my D200, but I think it's a dead horse. For $65.00 differance between it and the D300, I would buy the D300. If the price drops, (witch it will) buy it. Its a great camera.

    The price is right!
I own 2 in case one stops working mid shoot- I actually somehow bent the pins in the card slot and had one go out of service in an important shoot. At the time I was too panicked to remember I could have used my wireless transmitter to upload directly to a hard drive so had to fall back on a lesser Fuji-S2pro I had outgrown.

The wireless transmitter for this is great and I use it in studio to instantly transmit images to my laptop. With that and a pocket wizard, you don't trip on any wires. Yum!

Love the color settings (Portrait & Vivid are may favorites.)
My only complaint is that they keep making better cameras . .
the D300 has a bigger 3-inch VGA LCD and anti-dust features.
The D3 has full frame sensor and incredible ASA claims. 25,600 ASA???
    I want it. . .

I did not think that the d300 could top the d200. The d200's ability to hold on to a great deal of color fidelity and its noise control is far and above the original d100. Even the d70 has trouble there. 10 megapixels is excellent for the journalist and is easily the most durable nikon in years. the d300 is even a bit better. There is basically no type of photography this camera is not well suited for, save, of course underwater photography.
It is fast and appropriately classic in camera design, save the fact that it is not film-based. It is reliable and feature-full.

There are just a few things about this camera that I found sub par. First it weighs a metric ton, second, the lense on my Sony DSC-F828 is far superior, and third, I didn't find it as user friendly as the Sony. But nevertheless an outstanding piece of equipment.

I purchased this camera a few months back. Of course right after I bought it the D300 came out. I LOVE IT!

Except for an old 4x5 and a few other conventional items I pretty much scrapped all film cameras and my darkroom.

    ALL Digital now!
