I own this book and it has some good ideas for people struggling with typography. I would recommend it to anyone starting out in the field.

This book is fantastic. Not only does it explain the basic aspects of type, it shows you how to use them and use them correctly. There are tons of examples, history, and simple break downs. It's great for anyone just learning, or a seasoned designer.

This was my very first book in graphic design major =)
But honestly, I didn't find it that helpful to learn about typography. The author could've explained in a lot easier way with more clarity. Still you can try it because everyone has a different way of learning things.

Does a decent job teaching the material. However the book is over designed, oftentimes sacrificing organization for a cool look. Which is ironic because its supposed to teach you how to properly handle type.

I've just started to dab into this one because of my weak typography skills. Its very knowlegable tho and explains a range of topic on type from origin to id logo use. pretty handy for the unexperienced in type such as myself.

This is such a useful resource! I use it for my self promo stuff, because I am an illustrator and not as much of a designer

I used this book in my Typography class in school and I found it very useful. It covers a great range of topics and is wonderfully designed. I would give Ellen Lupton kudos any day.
