I've never bean able to find another Raw Umber that does what the W&N does. It is cooler than most and makes the most wonderful greys. I find that W&N paint dries faster than the average brand.

Great for fauxing when mixed with glazing liquid. Specifically, aging techniques on wood moulding, and intricate carvings for furniture. Once I mixed W&N umber with brown shoe polish, Smith's Cream and varasol to create a glaze for antiquing a ceramic lamp. Good stuff. Versitale.

This umber is a little too greenish for me.

Winsor & Newton Oils are definitely good to work with. This particular one is great if you need a lot of texture as it tends to be firmer than a lot of the other colors.

This has always been my favorite of all the English raw umbers. It has an ever so slight greenish tone to it, which is very useful for nature scenes.

I love the dark richness of this shade. I use it instead of black in my oil compositions.

I couldn't live without this color. I use it in shadows for my nudes, and mix it with many colors. I go though my tube so quickly

I use these paints, they are great. I love their texture and the feel of the paint when I am mixing them together. They blend great and work well on my canvas.
