Ever wish you had eyes in the back of your head?

NYU photography professor Wafaa Bilal took this expression to heart — he had a digital camera implanted in the back of his head! The stunt is part of a year long art project titled, “3rd I,” and is centered around the idea of capturing things subjectively.

A performance artist who has participated in more than one body modification art projects, Bilal underwent a two-hour operation (with only a local anesthetic!) to embed the camera.

Interested in viewing the images? Over the next year, the pictures captured by the camera will be showcased at the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Qatar.
