New York, NY—Rob Pruitt, whose past projects have made art out of cocaine, iPhone photographs, and a flea market, last night successfully staged art’s first awards show. During a ceremony at the Guggenheim Museum, a star-studded cast of art- and real-world presenters bestowed awards in ten categories, honoring some of the finest recent achievements in visual arts.

Ryan Trecartin, fresh off his $150,000 Wolgin Prize win Philadelphia, picked up the Best New Artist trophy, while abstract painter Mary Heilmann took home the prize for Artist of the Year, beating Louise Bourgeois, Urs Fischer, and Dan Graham. Other top awards went to New York critic Jerry Saltz for Writer of the Year, Connie Butler for Curator of the Year, and Gagosian Gallery for its Manzoni retrospective in the Solo Show of the Year (Gallery) category.

In addition to the competitive prizes, whose winners were selected by balloting hundreds of art world professionals, lifetime achievement awards were given to Joan Jonas and Kasper König for their distinguished careers.
