I've lived in New York except for college, when the suburbs seemed eerily silent to me. I feel most alive walking on the streets or running along the waterfront and letting the city carry me. Maybe that's why I like finding galleries.

There's an exchange in "The Big Sleep," where Bogart leaves a confrontation and says to the butler, "You made a mistake. She didn't want to see me," and he replies, "I make many mistakes, sir." That's what it's like being a critic or an editor.
Favorite TV Shows:
When I'm in the gym, I switch it to news. Otherwise prefer to catch up on reading.
Favorite Music:
I've got about equal shelves for rock, jazz, and classical. Some favorites . . . early Joni Mitchell or Elvis Costello, Mozart string quintets, Charlie Parker's Embraceable You when the alto sounds like it's crying.
