- SEGOARTS.ORG 169 N University Ave Provo UT The Sego Art Center was established in May 2008 in the heart of Provo, Utah to enrich the cultural environment of Utah County. This not-for-profit foundation provides an attractive venue for art, film and music at 169 North University Avenue, in the historic and revitalized downtown cultural district. Sego's name is derived from the sego lily, Utah's state flower, which symbolizes our rugged, hearty and beautiful identity and cultural heritage. Sego's main floor houses an art gallery featuring monthly exhibits from local, national and international talent. These exhibits educate the community about current art practices and theory. Artists benefit through increased opportunities to show their work, grow the art market and allow themselves to work and contribute to the current artistic dialogue. Ongoing lectures by artists, curators and art historians further educate and engage the community in a discussion about how the arts contribute to the meaning and purpose of life. Regular workshops focus on a variety of artistic media, professional artistic development and artistic literacy. Workshops attract local and visiting artists to engage both artist and audience in meaningful interaction. Sego also features affordable studio space for visual artists, a joint workspace with communal tools and an outdoor sculpture garden for relaxation and enjoyment. The studio space is a place where artists produce their work and prepare for shows and sales. These facilities will further enhance the community's involvement in the arts. The Sego Film Society is housed temporarily at the Center until a satellite location is procured. Regular screenings are held at Sego, building an interest in an already thriving film community in Provo, and giving a forum for local filmmakers to show and promote their work. In its third year, the Annual Sego Art, Film & Music Festival is a free family event for the whole community to enjoy, attracting thousands of people for the two-day event to embrace culture and the arts. Sego provides a center of operations for the festival, further increasing the festival's outreach. Sego is staffed by 300 volunteers who donate 150 hours per week, permitting the gallery to remain open Monday through Saturday from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm. The Sego Arts Foundation is recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit.
