Are you gearing up for a vacation, but aren’t sure which direction to go? When it comes to vacationing in the U.S., each city has its own unique art and design offerings. Most museums around the country set aside one night a week for free admission. Plan ahead for extra savings. This top 20 list will take you to well known destinations for artists and designers as well as cities off the beaten path.

Which city is the best travel destination?

We have rated 20 cities for vacationing by examining what each has to offer.

Our criteria

• We looked at the average price of gas in each city and the average airfare for each airport.

• We reviewed the hotel costs in each city and factored that into our rankings.

• Finally, it was important to make sure each city had as much to offer as possible. Fellow travelers rated each city based on art and culture, shopping, food and nightlife.
