Hi,
I was a graphic designer/Illustrator for over 10 yrs back in the early 80's when we did thibgs by hand and then started using Mac progams such as MacDraw and MacPaint, then I went into teaching Elementary Art. I would like to get back into design and Illustration but I have no real skills with the new progams that employers are looking for. I am willing to start at an entry level position if nessesary.
Can anyone out there help me with this?
Thanks, John

Good Design is approachable at first glance. It is easy to understand yet open to interpretation.
Good Design can be shown to friends. It can hold itsown in demanding situations.
Good Design is able to accommodate change. Good Design leaves a Good Impression.
Design activity is often referred to as a problem or series of problems. While the word problem in this context may seem negative, it actually signifies a challenge, an opportunity to create a successful and meaningful outcome.
Visual language can convey facts and ideas in a wider and deeper range than almost any other means of communication. It can reinforce the static verbal concept with the sensory vitality of dynamic imagery.
I'm Elvis Martínez - e-Smart - Graphic Design & Marketing.

I have a BFA, but I don't think it ever really helped me land a job, other than I had a good portfolio to show when I graduated. My advice: to get your foot in the door, start as a freelancer or contractor. My first 'real' graphic design job was a week-long contract with small multimedia company. A few months later they called me back for a 5-month part time job. A year after that, they called me back full time and I've now been there 16 years, making 3x what I started with that first year. You never know when those small jobs are going to pay off.

My degrees are deep in a file cabinet somewhere...they mean nothing to me. I was a better artist / designer before college without a doubt. But us creatives have a secret weapon...we can create our own path (literally). True designers don't need paper to explain what they are...JUST DO IT, if you are good you will be successful. Your work should speak louder than anything, and if it doesn't...do something else.

It's difficult having talent, but no degrees to show for it! Stupid Bachelor's degree requirement! Some people should just give you a chance and if you don't approve, just fire me! No harm; No foul!

it is so hard to find a job as a designer. i want it so bad and i look everyday. it gets really discouraging to see nothing coming from all my efforts. i won't give up, but it's definitely stressful and disheartening.
