5 Tips for Working on a Creative Team

Steve Berman | ArtBistro

1. Develop a Thick(er) Skin

This isn’t always easy, especially when you put your heart and soul into your work. However, if you work in a creative team, you have to face the fact that your ideas or creations might not always sync with everyone on your team. The key is to not let your hurt feelings get in the way of doing good work, or create conflicts within the team.

Say you work all week on a design, and you’re pretty proud of your progress. Then when you show your piece to the team, one of the other team members doesn’t like it. Not only that, but they’re also not shy about telling you why and just how much they don’t like your creation. What do you do?

What you DON’T do is respond in kind, especially if a teammate is harshly critiquing your work or even bashing it in an unprofessional manner. The best thing is to ask what specific problems your coworker has with your layout, and foster a productive discussion to either find out a different way to do things or convince your coworker why what you created could work.
