Step Two Research Design Careers

Fashion designers help create the billions of clothing articles, shoes, and accessories purchased every year by consumers. Designers study fashion trends, sketch designs of clothing and accessories, select colors and fabrics, and oversee the final production of their designs. Clothing designers create and help produce men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel, including casual wear, suits, sportswear, formalwear, outerwear, maternity, and intimate apparel. Footwear designers help create and produce different styles of shoes and boots. Accessory designers help create and produce items that add the finishing touches to an outfit, such as handbags, belts, scarves, hats, hosiery, and eyewear. (The work of jewelers and precious stone and metal workers is described elsewhere in the Handbook.) Some fashion designers specialize in clothing, footwear, or accessory design, while others create designs in all three fashion categories.
Illustrators typically create pictures for books, magazines, and other publications and for commercial products such as textiles, wrapping paper, stationery, greeting cards, and calendars. Increasingly, illustrators are working in digital format, preparing work directly on a computer. Illustrators also delve in the world of motion, character development and animation.

I learned I'm a Graphic Designer after all. Thanks for the job descriptions. It really helped clear things up for me. I am also able to work in the Art Director and Photographer categories as well.

I found out i'm good at illustrating, which i already knew, but the list of schools did not indicate any programs for illustration.

Would cartoonists really be considered designers or would they be better fitted in the fine art/artists group?
I find it surprising how Industrial Designers are not listed here. Who do you think designed the computer that you are using to read this article? Who made vehicles look/function appealingly?
