Meet ArtBistro Creativity Coach, Eric Maisel


Eric Maisel, PhD, is a California licensed marriage and family therapist, creativity coach, meaning coach, and the author of 30 books.

He founded the professions of creativity coaching and meaning coaching, trains coaches worldwide, writes a monthly column for Art Calendar Magazine, hosts two shows on the Personal Life Media Network, provides workshops at venues like the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology and the Omega Institute, and maintains a coaching practice in the San Francisco Bay Area.

He is a front-page columnist for and a featured contributor for, a Martha Stewart enterprise, and the Huffington Post.


Dr. Maisel was adjunct faculty at St. Mary’s College (Moraga, California) for ten years, created and wrote Callboard Magazine’s Staying Sane in the Theater column, and has presented lectures and workshops for the American Psychological Association, the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the Paris Writers Workshop, the North Carolina School of the Arts, the U. C. Berkeley Counseling Center, and many other venues. He has provided hundreds of radio, television, and print interviews and has appeared on shows like Thinking Allowed and The Forum.

His books include Coaching the Artist Within, Creative Recovery, Fearless Creating, The Van Gogh Blues, Fearless Creating, The Creativity Book, Creativity for Life, and many others. His most recent book is Brainstorm: Harnessing the Power of Productive Obsessions.
